Word of the Week: Astrometry
Measuring the position of stars, asteroids, and other celestial bodies relative to an astronomical coordinate system in the sky (similar to latitude and longitude on Earth).
Scientists use astrometry to help confirm the locations of newly discovered asteroids and to determine orbits of known asteroids, such as Bennu, so their positions can be predicted into the future.
