What Path Will OSIRIS-REx Take During Earth Gravity Assist?

On Sept. 22, 2017, OSIRIS-REx will perform an Earth Gravity Assist maneuver. This fuel-saving technique will slingshot the spacecraft out toward asteroid Bennu, which orbits the Sun at a six-degree inclination (angle) from Earth’s orbital plane. This groundtrack map shows the path the spacecraft will take relative to the Earth’s surface.
