Overhead View of Site Sandpiper
This image shows a view of sample site Sandpiper, which is located inside the large crater. A smaller crater inside the larger crater near the site is also visible. The sample site is located just above the irregularly-shaped, light-colored boulder on the lower left side of the image. The shadows in this image provide a good sense of the larger crater’s depth and overall size. The image was taken by the MapCam camera on NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft on February 24, 2019, from a distance of 0.9 miles (1.4 km). The field of view is 328 ft (100 m). The image was obtained during the mission’s Orbital A phase. When the image was taken, the spacecraft was over the southern hemisphere, pointing MapCam north and to the east.
