Close-Up View of Sample Site Osprey

This image shows an overhead view of the crater where sample site Osprey is located on asteroid Bennu. A darker (low albedo) area is visible in the middle of the crater. Two possible sampling regions are located within the crater to the right and left of this dark spot. The image was taken by the PolyCam camera on NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft on March 21, 2019, from a distance of 2.2 miles (3.5 km). The field of view is 157 ft (48 m). The image was obtained during Flyby 3 of the mission’s Detailed Survey: Baseball Diamond phase. When the image was taken, the spacecraft was over the equator, pointing PolyCam slightly north.
