Definition of Stereo Images

Word of the Week: Stereo Images

Overlapping images taken from two slightly different angles, which are used to create a sense of depth and help estimate the height of topographic features. When combined and viewed through special glasses, stereo images appear in 3D.

The OSIRIS-REx team will use stereo images taken by the spacecraft’s OCAMS cameras to help evaluate the terrain at two possible sampling locations on Bennu.
