Light Time Definition and Illustration

Word of the Week: Light Time

The time required of electromagnetic radiation — such as visible light or radio waves — to travel from a celestial body or spacecraft to Earth.

Electromagnetic radiation moves no faster than the speed of light (1.08 billion km/hr),so the farther OSIRIS-REx travels from Earth, the longer it takes to talk to the spacecraft.
