Detail of Boulder Field on Bennu
This image shows a region in the southern hemisphere of asteroid Bennu that contains a mix of large and small boulders. The PolyCam camera on NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft took the image on March 21 from a distance of 2.2 miles (3.5 km). The field of view is 160 ft (49 m). For scale, the large boulder in the upper half the image is 82 ft (25 m) wide, which is a little less than the distance between bases on a baseball diamond. The image was obtained during Flyby 3 of the mission’s Detailed Survey: Baseball Diamond phase. When the image was taken, the spacecraft was over the equator, pointing PolyCam toward the south of the asteroid.
